1000 Miles: Great 1000 Miles Rally is a driving video game developed and published as an arcade game in 1994 by the Japanese software house Kaneko .
Structured along the lines of Gaelco's 1993 rally video game World Rally: Championship , 1000 Miglia: Great 1000 Miles Rally is the first arcade video game relating to the historic Italian car race Mille Miglia , as well as the first game of the theme to have been developed by a non-Italian company.
A version was produced and distributed for the US market called Great 1000 Miles Rally which features some variations, including different selectable car models; there is also a hack called Evolution Model , published in September 1994, which is a modified version of the American edition.
The game is heavily inspired from World Rally: Championship , a video game produced the previous year by the Spanish company Gaelco : it is a driving video game with an isometric view where you control a car using the steering wheel for steering (which responds only to inputs from left and right, consequently it can be replaced by a joystick ), the accelerator pedal and the pedal to operate the brake.
The objective of the game is to cross the finish line of each individual stage within the time limit of one minute. During the race it will also be necessary to avoid opposing vehicles, while the CPU helps to indicate the type of curve that we will soon have to face.
At the start of the game it is possible to choose one of different cars which change depending on the version of the game: in fact in the original version there are 10 cars present, while in the US version and in the Evolution Model there are two other cars without official names, namely the FireBall (a Chevrolet Corvette C3 ) and the RacerX (an Alfa Romeo P3 ), as well as each car being in two versions with different colors. After selecting the car it will be possible to choose which stage to tackle first among the 12 available, and once this stag e has been completed it will also be possible to select the following one.
The Evolution Model version presents some more aesthetic variations compared to the version for the American market, such as a different introductory screen, different stages in the track, a greater presence of smoke and flames from cars even in the event of collisions.
