Neon is a character from Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. She is a warrior whose party fell in their quest to defeat Chaos, who took the form of Garland-turned-Chaos to give the world a chance to strike them down. She carries a crystal orb and joins Jack Garland in his quest.
History
Unlike the rest of her party, who are otherworldly agents from "Paradise", a realm used by Lufenia for their "Strangers" project, Neon is a human from Cornelia. Prenatally, she was genetically modified by the Lufenians in an attempt to birth a Warrior of Light, copying the methods of another dimension. Astos gave her a dark crystal as part of his and Jack's plans to defeat the Lufenians, a plan which she and Jack would forget during the endless cycle of time loops.
Neon realized that the being called "Chaos" did not exist, that he was a fantasy created by the people to blame everything wrong in the world on. She wished to become Chaos herself, hoping that heroes would come down and kill her, and bring hope to the world by destroying the people's greatest enemy. To that end, she took on the form of "Chaos Advent".
Jack, Jed, and Ash defeated Chaos Advent, revealing Neon. Neon showed her crystal to the party and joined them. Once Neon learned the truth of Lufenia's attempt to create a utopia by manipulating and subjugating Cornelia, she supported her companions' goal of stopping Lufenia's plans by turning Jack into Chaos and eventually became the fire fiend Marilith.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a 2022 action role-playing game in the Final Fantasy series developed by Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja, and published by Square Enix in celebration of the series' 35th anniversary. As an alternate universe prequel of Square Enix's original Final Fantasy on the NES, the storyline follows a set of characters brought into a fantasy world to face the malevolent Chaos. The game was released in March 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Gameplay
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is an action role-playing game in which players take on the role of protagonist Jack, exploring environments and fighting monsters of the Final Fantasy series. Combat takes place in real-time, with Jack being able to switch between two assigned jobs and use physical and magical attacks. Once an enemy's "break gauge" is depleted, Jack can perform a finishing blow that crystallizes the enemy, allowing Jack to harvest them and restore a portion of his magic meter.
Setting
Stranger of Paradise is set in a dark fantasy interpretation of the setting for the original Final Fantasy game. The main character is Jack, a man consumed by a need to destroy Chaos. Jack is accompanied by other companions, including newcomers Ash and Jed. During the journey they face a knight who has taken on the role of Chaos; while seemingly the foretold Warriors of Light, each has doubts as to whether that is their role.
