#145 SUPER MARIO KART - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (100cc GOLD) - Beating My SNES Games
Here is part one of my full playthrough of Super Mario Kart done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states! Damn is this game infuriating! I wanted to go 150cc Gold but i just dont have the patience to play it anymore.
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.

#145 Super Mario Kart (All Cups Gold-100cc)
-Another golden game from my childhood gets the intense 'Cabin game beaten' treatment, reducing all those happy past memories to beaten & bloody pulp. Time and again these challenges present me with titles I naively assume will be a gentle break from the relentless grind and suffering the rest of the library demand, only to be dealt an even more gruelling experience beating them than what came before!
The Mario Kart series will likely always rely on mechanics that balance gameplay by allowing weaker players to stand a chance thanks to the powerup options weighted more kindly towards players in last place. Its part of the reason why I've always rated Diddy Kong Racing the superior N64 kart racer and the Snes original is no different, dishing out Stars and Mushrooms only for those struggling in the middle. Where things do differ is with the AI!
To call the game horribly unfair is a ferocious understatement! The game is a complete cheating bastard and luck plays a heavy role in success for many races.
Besides the never ending assault of projectiles whoever is behind will unleash, the Plumber bros addiction to munching Stars means you're always at the mercy of a surprise spin-out as one of them unsuspectingly rams you from behind. On the subject of ramming, let's not overlook the fact that if the CPU hits you, or if you hit them, only you will be knocked off course, usually off the track! The CPU has a set race line and NOTHING gets in it's way. Ergo, when you're shunted into 8th from an utterly unavoidable bump in the rear, on a tight tricky course, short of powerups it's often impossible to regain the lead. Oh and did I mention that the CPU is invulnerable to environmental hazards? Yeah, they'll drive straight through a wall of Thwumps!!
Perhaps the most infuriatingly thing is simply how the game ensures a set CPU finish order everytime. Unless you manage to knock the order off with carefully timed powerups, you'll need to win 3 races and finish high for the others to win the cup.
As is always the case with my challenge, normal mode was the goal. I consider that 100cc. I've no desire to challenge 150 thanks.
