224Matthew 'Formal', Piper.. the gamer who could play ANY fps title.. and he'll inevitably be called a grandmaster.. In one corner of his bedroom a dresser is adorned with football trophies and another is stacked with baseball trophies. “I kind of gave it all up,” 16 year old Formal said, approaching his desk where a 22-inch monitor – as near as he could get to the kind used in MLG tournaments – is hooked up to an Xbox 360 game system connected online. He’s running the latest iteration of the game; “Halo Reach.”
This was Piper’s sport. Behind the screen, his red jersey from the last competition drapes over a lamp. His name stretches across the back – “Formal.” He doesn’t smile much. It’s all business. 13 Years later.. at age 29, he's still the same Formal.. but with one million, one hundred and eighty three thousand dollars worth of prize earnings from a total of 154 Tournaments.. and in 75 of them he was the champion.
