Hi Score Girl is an anime and manga series created by Rensuke Oshikiri. It is in every sense a love letter to arcade and gaming culture, wrapped up in a coming of age story that will have you laughing, crying, and desperately hoping for another season.

It follows Haruo Yaguchi, a video game-obsessed child who seems to care about nothing else in the world more than gaming. He doesn’t care about grades or relationships. All he cares about is dominating every new game that comes out. He is an undefeated gaming god in his own eyes, until an unlikely challenger beats him and shatters his ego.

This challenger happens to be Akira Ono, a quiet and mysterious but popular girl from his school. Utterly destroyed and filled with rage, Haruo vows to become an even stronger competitor and defeat this new rival.

That is, until he falls in love with her.
