Ace Combat 2 (Psx) Playthrough / The F-14 Tomcat is even sexy in poor textures. Goose..GOOSE !!
Ace Combat 2 (1997) from Namco stable is a staple of arcade 3D plane simulators. This game shaped and redefined the genre, set standards that are still being improved upon today. I love this game. It is almost perfect, given the capabilities of the old vintage Psx . For this system it is by far the best game in the series. In the original "Air Combat" the controls were terrible and the missions were boring, while in Ace Combat 3 for me they introduced too many sci-fi elements. I mean these prototype planes that we have to face, etc. there are of course such elements here as well, but it's toned down enough to turn a blind eye. Generally also the menu between missions and the HUD during the game itself is annoying. Maybe I'm picking on it, but that's why I prefer the second part over the third. By Psx standards, the graphics are really good, the music is stimulating and fits well with the dynamic gameplay the game offers. Despite the passage of many years it still plays really well and if it weren't for the fact that the game is a bit short and leaves a certain unsatisfactory feeling, it would be a perfect rating for me. It's not a difficult game and rather easy to master, also everyone should find their way through it. The extensive selection of available fighters can really appeal, after all, as a kid everyone probably dreamed of flying one of these planes. All the classics are rather here, from the F-4 Phantom to the F-22 Raptor, you name it. As for me, the game is definitely in the top20 of the best games on Psx and is a must for collectors as well as for those who plan to start their retro adventure with Psx emulation . Highly recommended.
