ActRaiser playthrough on Retroid Pocket 2 Part 03 Boss rush and ending [FINAL]
NOTE: From time to time there might be a sound distortion audible, I think this is due to the hdmi adapter (mini hdmi to hdmi) which is quite loose and any movement of the cable might be the cause of this noise. Eventually, this might be caused by the volume set too high. Nevertheless, it is something I am unable to remove ;/
Recently, I have purchased the hot Retroid Pocket 2, which seems to have become very popular among retro and handheld fans. I must admit that the consol, to put it short, is cool and really convenient, you need A LOT of tweaking and testing to get the true power out of that device. If someone tells you that its emulation is great out-of-the-box experience, do not believe them. You will find the stock set of apps and the second system (Retroid) with default settings pretty disappointing. However, if you have decent knowledge about emulation and are pretty patient, you will get yourself a great handheld console.
And since it is a handheld console, I finally found an opportunity to play some games that I normally wouldn't find time for. Here's ActRaiser! In my opinion, it is one of the best and most interesting games in the SNES library. That is why I decided to finally play through the whole game and cross it out from my "games I need to play" list. Important note here: I found out that SNES performance is surprisingly picky on the Retroid Pocket 2. Retroarch or stock emulators did not work well in case of ActRaiser, the audio was slightly too glitchy, regardless the core or the emulator. I finally found out that installing an app called John Ness from Google Play solves all the emulation issues. The app works perfectly and I really recommend installing it and using as your main emulator for SNES games.
As for my playthrough itself, I took an unusual approach, I decided to max out the cities first, then move on with story and bosses. If I manage to reach the population/size of the city for the time being, I simply move on to the next area (thank God for low lvl requirements). Thus, the final part shows the final boss rush and ending credits. All in all, this is a great game with fair difficulty (except for clunky controls in the action sections), great music and mechanics. A must-play for retro fans!
