This is one of those games I wanted to record a playthrough of way back when I first started doing them, but I just wasn't good enough to do it deathless, and I always felt like a run with deaths just wouldn't be clean enough to make a video of.
Anyway, this is Alex Kidd in Miracle World, an absolute classic for the system that was first released back in 1986 (or 1987 in Europe) before it kept being re-released as a title built into later console models. Those re-releases swap which button jumps and which one punches, and also replaced the rice ball with a hamburger.
Obviously, this is not that version. It's the original cartridge release, just like the one I spent a lot of money getting my hands on, complete in box. It's a must-have title for anyone wanting to experience the Master System's library, after all, and at least it's only the second-most expensive game I physically own...
As for the gameplay, Alex can shatter rocks with a single punch, but dies in one hit from anything. The boss fights are also for the most part settled with a game of rock-paper-scissors (or janken, as it's called in Japan), but fortunately it's not as luck-based as it sounds: assuming you don't lose or end up in a draw on any single round, your opponents will always throw the same hands every time.
