Jakka's army continues their march to give it to Mortimer. It would be a wise idea to heavily damage his ability to send messages through the air though. That means dealing a crushing blow to the masters of aerial combat from House Windlance so let's see what their battlefield looks like.

This can be a rather tricky chapter for several reasons. First off, the terrain can be very unkind to anyone that's not a flyer, especially for mounted units that may need to traverse through forests. Not so much of an issue for me since I've got several flyers and Crixus with his Acrobat skill that can handle the terrain.

Secondly, the secret lunatic objective. Killing Wester is the main chapter objective, but after 10 turns pass, he's going to send his son William away from the battlefield. You need to kill William before that happens to satisfy the secret lunatic objective, meaning you have to be quite aggressive in pushing forward.

Thirdly, there's a recruitable Falcoknight, Madeline. Recruiting her is a tough challenge since you need Shom for this and he needs to attack her twice, then talk to her to finally convert her to Jakka's army. Even with someone to grant an extra turn, you're going to need to find some way to deal with her in fighting range.

Madeline doesn't go attack anyone in her range, but rather she will always beeline it for Shom if he's on the field. You can take advantage of this with Rescue staff shenanigans to pull him to the opposite side of the map after he's done his attack. If Shom's fast enough to not be doubled by Madeline, you could do some picking up and setting him down & surrounding him in such a way that Madeline will be forced to use her Spear against him.

Alternatively, pray to the RNG gods as I had to because I needed to pick him up with someone, then wait until the next turn to secure her recruitment. She will attack someone if she doesn't detect Shom on the field. If that's a mage, her Barrier Sword is going to either one shot or damn near one shot them because it's effective against spellcasters, a fact Angelus finds out and has to dodge a 50% one shot kill from her.

Madeline's main niche is to be a giant screw you to most mages. Her personal skill, Warding Blow, grants her a massive +20 to res if she initiates combat. Couple that with the Barrier Sword granting +10 res to the wielder and she can likely facetank a very large portion of enemy spellcasters. Toss in a use of a Barrier staff if you want to drive her res up even more.

All that aside, her magic of 4 is certainly not good, but she can still use staves like Restore & Recover which don't need any magic to be effective. Good stats elsewhere though, especially her hp/def/res which are surprisingly good for a Falcoknight.

Growth wise, she pours points into the five stats she really wants from levels (hp, skl, spd, def, and res). Str, mag, and luck are bad, but her strength is close to cap and her luck is decent enough.

Overall, if you have a built up Shay, Madeline probably isn't going to take over her spot. She can still help you out with carrying key members to your main offensive front to the west if needed.

Once recruiting her is out of the way, you can focus on pushing towards William. The enemies won't make that easy with the heavy amount of reinforcements and one last wrinkle that makes this chapter tricky...two notable groups of enemies.

One of them is a trio of named Falcoknights in Ada, Anila, and Alicia. Very evasive and they have a support triangle running between them that drives that evasion up even higher. Couple that with weapons that prevent counterattacks, access to the fabled triangle attack, and 10 move on all three and you're going to have to be very careful with leaving anyone frail in their range. Characters with skills that either boost allies' hit rates (Angelus, Tendaris) or lower enemy avoid (Whomever is your designated Jarl from the Hornheim arc) help with landing hits as does bringing weapons with high hit.

There's also a group of high leveled Centaurs & Khans that pop up at your starting position, one of them being led by Drogon. Slight problem for him though...he pops up on the east side and Hailey just got her A rank support with Kurt which rewards a Master Bow. Brave effect like the Master Lance and has a high crit rate. This means that Hailey takes out a full health Drogon in one combat thanks to a couple crits. May not have the best strength, but she gets results when it matters most. She'll be in the endgame lineup for sure.

More next time!
