Hey, you ever want to play as a bargain-bin Indiana Jones who wants to be a Bionic Commando? Well, look no further than Arumana no Kiseki. A short game yet housing large frustrations, most of them coming from inconsistent grapples and falling through walls and platforms. While you do have a grappling hook, you cannot swing with it; however, you can jump, unlike in Bionic Commando. Your grapples are simply to navigate the sprawling levels and to take you to heights otherwise impossible. You can collect many different weapons, sometimes hidden away through stages or dropped off by enemies wearing red, and each of these weapons is useful for bosses or situations in stages, which I like. Outside of weapons, there are some life refills and upgrades, along with extra lives sprawled hidden away, and just like the weapons, they feel useful, sometimes to the point where you feel like you need them. A couple of times I was left with 1 HP, and I was never so happy to see a man drop his meat for me or to find some hidden away in a corner. There are a couple different paths in levels where you will measure risk vs. reward, such as a more dangerous path with some items you want vs. one that is a clean drop to the end of the level. As I mentioned at the beginning, the game is short, so there is some replay value in exploring the game thoroughly or wanting to just get quicker with it. The soundtrack is awesome in this game, and once you learn the ins and outs, the playthrough won't take you more than an hour. An above-average game, but some of its frustrations leave me unlikely to revisit it anytime soon. 6.7/10 -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/latenightretro
