Released 1/22/1985, Balloon Fight for Famicom is one of Satoru Iwata's best games, developed while he programmed for HAL Laboratory. Similar to Joust in gameplay, you float around and try to pop the balloons and parachutes of your opponents. A large fish waits to snatch up any parachuters too close to the water. In bonus rounds you are awarded extra points for popping every balloon.

This early Famicom title reflects the brutal nature of some of the early Nintendo titles, which suggests they were targeting a teenage audience as opposed to a younger crowd. Not only do you knock your opponents down and into the mouth of a sea monster, you also pop their air bubble, the last gasp of breath as they drown! If you are not careful in Balloon Trip, you will be electrocuted to death by the stars. Nintendo maybe pushed this savage violence too far with Ice Climbers, as we will see next time.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Top Score on Game A and Game C. I played on an original NES using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
