Best Twin-Stick Shooter (By Far)! Nex Machina Review | PC, PS4, PS5
Today, at the request of the patrons, I review an overlooked twin stick shooter, Nex Machina by Housemarque. The developer of Returnal. The reason why I consider this game to be the best in the genre (at least that I'm aware of) is that it manages to avoid all of the lame western design issues of its peers like Enter the Gungeon or The Binding Of Isaac. Rather than pushing the twin stick format into being a glorified RPG or rogue-like, instead Nex Machina focuses on the essentials of the core combat and level design, with no padding or filler. The game is by no means perfect and I think there are some clear improvements that could be made to the design. But still, this developer clearly shows a lot of understanding of what makes an action game engaging on a mechanical level. I'm not a huge fan of the graphical style, to say the least, but still a strong recommmend in my book. You can get the game on steam, ps4, ps5, and also on good old games, which I think is pretty cool.
