10Castlevania II was the first Nintendo game that I purchased and is one of my top NES games. It, like Zelda 2, moves into RPG world, paving the way for the Metroid-Vania games of the future and leaving some of the more arcade-like sensibilities of the original Castlevania behind (although these would return in Castlevania 3 and even Super Castlevania). Castlevania Symphony of the Night is perhaps the perfect evolution of this 2D, exploration, combat, RPG, formula, but it all started here, with Simon's Quest. In this compete beginner's guide to Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, I will start a brand new game and walk you through the basics of the controls, the UI, and tips and tricks to help you survive in the beginning of the game. This is a completely non-spoiler guide, meant only to help you learn the fundamentals so you can explore and enjoy the surprises the game offers on your own--all in a quest to defeat the vampire hunter's ultimate nemesis: Count Dracula!
