Despite the universal hate Legends get, I loved it, in fact, in my mind, this game is on par with at least CV1 on NES.

The graphics are decent for a GB game, a bit less when compared to Belmonts Revenge, sure, but not bad. Maybe the art style used was the culprit. Also, its a 1997 game, same year as Symphony, so go figure. The media press had no mercy at it nor the console it was on.

Musically is really solid, and the stages while linear and very big, arent bad.

The worse part of this game, for me at least,. are the flying enemies and their patterns. Specially Bats and Spirits. They can go thru walls and have semi unpredictable patters, and always strike you by angles your whip will not normally cover.

Add to this the respawn of the enemies.

But to think of this, if it werent for these aspects, the game would be MAD easy. Sure there are no classic usable subweapons (They are collectionable relics, that if gathered all, you can see the true ending and an extra stage + boss) but every time you get thru a stagem you get a special ability. Some very good like time stop or health regen, other not that good like the proyectiles or screen explosion. All of those consume your hearts.

Also, you have a "rage burst" or invencibility period once per life, pressing A+B. You can get these by accident so beware. And during this time, you do more damage and are invincible against enemies (not pits).

If it were by me, I would give this game a solid 7.5/10. I loved also the story of Sonia, being the precursor of the Belmont family, and how they flesh it out via dialog boxes against certain bosses.

This run was recorded using a modded Xbox 360 + Retroarch and the Gambatte core. Savestates were used at the start of each stage but I didnt needed them, the game is pretty easy if you memorize patterns.

Enjoy!
