Defiance is an ambitious concept, bringing together video games and television for one transmedia storytelling experience. The game is a third-person shooter, but it's also an MMO for home consoles. Defiance's story is a science fiction saga that takes place in the wake of a brutal war between humans and aliens. The game drops players onto an Earth ravaged by battle and mutated by alien life. As an MMO, other players are joining the fight all around you. Defiance features several multiplayer modes, but its main attraction is its campaign, which has several missions and brings an MMO feel to a place where it's entirely alien—the home console. The mechanics are typical for a third-person shooter, and the fun comes from the sheer amount of stuff to do and the cooperation of other players. The television show and game tell the story of Defiance together.
