Coleraine Rally held in protest at Causeway Hospital maternity decision
A rally was held in Coleraine to protest against the decision to halt births at Causeway Hospital and consolidate maternity services at Antrim Area Hospital. Campaign group SoS Causeway Hospital organized the march, expressing concern and worry among women in the community. The Northern Health and Social Care Trust clarified that the decision did not indicate the closure of Causeway Hospital but rather a response to declining birth rates in the area. Protesters argued that this move would result in women having to travel longer distances to give birth, potentially putting lives at risk. Participants shared positive experiences of giving birth at Causeway Hospital and emphasized the importance of preserving local maternity services. While the Northern Trust recommended the permanent transfer of all births to the Antrim site, antenatal and postnatal clinics will continue at Causeway Hospital. The situation has raised concerns about the mental health and financial impact on expectant mothers in the affected region. For more details, read the full article at: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-66210664
