Slicks, developed by Digital Design and published by Codemasters for the Commodore 64 in 1992.

"Compete in the Super Prix racing in a championship that spans the world, Join Maclaren, Williams, Ferrari, Benetton, Lotus and Brabham, in an entire race season from the comfort of your own living room. Travel to all of the glamourous locations. From the twists and turns of the Monte Carlo streets, to the enduring accelerating straights of Brazil. Challenge other drivers then qualify for grid position just like the real thing. For a true test of reflexes, challenge your mates in the new simultaneous two player action, head to head, wheel to wheel play off!"

A nice fast Slick! top down racer for the c64. Quite a late release from Codemasters I think, maybe one of the last. Great presentation with some nice music and great gfx. There are 6 levels to race around. Before each one is qualifier and your finishing time determines your gris starting position. Before the race you can challenge or maybe be challenged. Should you win, you get to move to their team and car. The objective is to get the most driver/team points and win the championship.

What you won't see in the video is how brutally difficult the game is and that you need to drive pretty much perfectly to stand a chance of winning. It doesn't help that the cars have different abilities so to progress you need to challenge a driver with a faster car, but not so fast that you can't catch them. Win and their fast car is yours making races easier, assuming you can control the faster car. However should you not win the championship, you do get to keep the car you reached making the next season easier, hopefully.

I played the Commodore Format demo a fair bit back in the day till i was finally good enough at the demo track. The game was 3.99 as is usual for Codemasters budget games and although I never finished it, I did enjoy playing it for a while and at that price, I got my money's worth out of it. It wasn't long after I moved to the Amiga.
