Crash Bandicoot is the Best Game I've Never Played | Playstation (PS1) Retro Review/Retrospective
60Released in 1996, Crash Bandicoot is a linear 3D/2.5D platformer for the Playstation. Developed by Naughty Dog, it stars the titular Crash Bandicoot on a journey to rescue his girlfriend Tawna from the evil Doctor Neo Cortex and Doctor Nitrus Brio across nearly three dozen levels of hair pulling action. While it wasn’t one of the Playstation’s launch titles and even missed the US’s launch window by a full year while it was at it, the game is synonymous with the hardware’s first run of killer apps. Even though Crash has become a multiplatform character since the early 2000s, he was basically Sony’s mascot for their 32-bit console back in the mid to late 90s. In the same way that Sony’s competitors at Nintendo had just used Mario to showcase the 3D capabilities of their hardware back in June 1996, Crash quickly became the game that Playstation fans pointed to when trying to prove their console’s superiority against their rivals.
