An explanation of a unique game-performance optimization trick found in the Team Fortress 2 map: Haarp.

These videos are so short that I might as well just include the entire scripts in the description:

SCRIPT:
The Team Fortress 2 map called Capture The Flag Haarp utilizes an interesting game-performance optimization trick not found elsewhere in Team Fortress 2.

When standing on the outdoor platform on the first stage of the map it's possible to see the outdoor platform of the second stage. The same is true in reverse, when standing on the second stage's platform the first can be seen.

The thing is, the platforms being seen aren't the real places. They occupy the same space as the real places but what's actually being seen is a fake, lower quality version of the place-spaces that resides in the skybox.

This is a normal thing to do for game-performance optimization, however there's a problem. Since they occupy the same space as the play-space you end up with anomalies like this, where the skybox's radio tower is inside the normal radio tower. Fortunately, the developers were smart. When a stage is being played the skybox assets for that area are disabled. This is clever and something unique to this map.
