Gary Numan was about to be pummeled in a fit of road rage so he drove his car on the sidewalk in order to get away from his attackers and got away. Later at his flat he wrote one of the most revolutionary songs of the 80s: Cars. When Cars was released in the UK it went to #1 straight away. In Canada it also had #1 success and in America it would hit #9 but it was such a force... No one had EVER heard anything like it. It brought New Wave into the limelight. It would be Gary Numan's only big song in America thus being tagged a one hit wonder, but he would may hits in the UK. Here Gary tells the story of the scary incident that spawned an 80s classic.
