Greetings, tovarischi! The Communist Party, represented by publisher THQ Nordic, will soon please the proletariat with a remake of the sequel to Destroy All Humans! - console shooter with black humor, where you have to play as an alien invader in 1969. Read our review to see if the KGB can defeat the alien, how the gameplay has remained intact for 16 years, and how many lewd jokes are left in Reprobed.
Destroy All Humans! 2 was released in October 2006 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox Original, becoming the last game for the Pandemic studio before its takeover by Electronic Arts. The entire series can't be called a cult or over-the-top success, but the games has its fans. The adventures of the dorky alien were memorable primarily for their provocative humor rather than average gameplay, but there wasn't much of a shooter variety on consoles back then, so the projects became childhood favorites for many. In 2020, a remake of the first part was released, which was very warmly received by players - the game has 91% "likes" on Steam. In general, the re-release of the sequel was a matter of time.
The plot of Destroy All Humans! 2 starts shortly after the events of the original. In the 1960s, the Earth was invaded by ridiculously stunted Furon aliens, but instead of wiping out the population, they just made a mess and trashed half the FBI and the US Army, and in the end put a clone of the main character Cryptosporidium-138 in place of the US President. The preoccupied human female alien had his fun at the White House until the russkies got wind of his presence and destroyed their mothership in orbit. Now Krypto has to take revenge on the KGB: to foil their plans, destroy the spy network, and destroy the strategic vodka supply.
However, not only the Russians got it, but also British intelligence, hippies and ninjas, but, of course, much less than paskudam from the KGB. And yes, russkie really say a lot of Russian words in English voice acting, and sometimes even swear. What is most pleasant, localization did not disappoint, and there is a checkmate in the game — a little, but there is. Although there are sometimes minor errors in subtitles, because of which the meaning of some expressions is lost, in general everything is very good.
But there are few memorable heroes in history, and I would like to mention only one strong female character. Natalya, depicted on all promotional materials, is a sexy KGB agent (agent, agent?) who wants to break the plans of her former colleagues, and Crypto terribly wants to stick her. Despite the provocative appearance, the heroine is a real dream of feminists and is described by the phrase "it's better not to spoil this one, otherwise she will cut off khui" (and promises to do so). In general, this is the only adequate character in the game who says sensible things and goes to his
Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed — a messenger from the past, who dressed up well for a new meeting. Having replaced all the external attributes, the studio left the formula unchanged, and indeed all the content — games don't do that anymore, and this is both good and bad. Those for whom Crypto adventures have become a childhood game should definitely get acquainted with the remake, but beginners need to think three times about whether they are confused or pleased by stupid jokes about Russians and anal probes — apart from this, the game has nothing much to offer them.
