Futurama was released on August 12, 2003 for the Playstation 2 and Original Xbox. At time of recording, this game currently sells between $290 up to $470. Why is it so expensive you might ask. Well, during this time period, Futurama got canceled and on top of that, the game did not sell particularly well. So there's not that many copies out in the wild compared to other games. Me being a fan of the show, I always wanted to play the game. So I decided to bite the bullet and went hunting for Futurama. I ended up finding a great copy of Furturama on eBay and I bought it for $250. I wanted to find out if it still holds up today? With that said, let's get into it.

Starting off with the UI menu, how much more simple do you want it? You have 4 options and I already said one of them. On top of options, you have new game, load game, and extras. That is it. There is not a side game mode, battle mode, or anything like that. If you wanted to play Co-Op with your buddies, guess what, you’re out of luck because Futurama is a 1 player game which is a bit disappointing.

As we take a look into the extras mode, it gives you 3 different options. Movies, Music, and Gallery. The movies are just cutscenes you unlock if you collect the hidden nibblers that are scattered through various different levels in the game. This also goes for the gallery, but the gallery are just different loading screens that you could view. As for the music, it's just the soundtrack for the game, nothing out of the ordinary. And with that, we are left with only one option left. Playing the actual story.

The game starts off with Professor Farnsworth selling the planet express to Mom. Which leads to mom now owning 50% of the earth and making her the supreme ruler. Now the Planet express crew has to stop mom and take back the earth.

In this game you play as Fry, Bender, Leela, and only once as zoidberg in that exact order. I ended up beating this game in a bit under 6 hours. However, if you’re a bit more skilled than myself, then you can complete this game well under 5 hours. The reason why it took me a bit longer to complete the game is because Futurama has some of the most annoying enemies I've come across. On top of that, this game camera controls are complete garbage. I can't tell you how many times I've died because of the camera controls. Especially in the mission, “Right-Wing”, you play as Leela and about 7 minutes into the mission, you come across a platforming section. In this part I have to jump onto one pillar to another while the pillar is quickly descending into lava. The only problem, the camera sometimes does not center properly which causes you to fall into the lava.

In that same mission you have to fight these lava monsters. Not only do they take 10 hits to kill, if they hit you one or two times your health is practically gone.

I also forgot to mention, as you play as Leela, you have these bomber enemy types that will just run up to you and explode. Which causes you to lose half of your life. If you try to run away from them, you can’t because they run faster than you. Your best bet is to try your best to avoid them if possible.

On top of that, in the mission “The Mind Facility”, you play as bender and part of that mission you have to jump from beam to beam to get across to the other side. However, there is no button you can click for you to grab on. You just have to jump onto the beam and pray that bender grabs onto it. If he doesn't, then this happens. No joke I legit lost all of my lives because Bender couldn't grab onto the damn beam. It completely pissed me off to no end.

As much as I hate to say it, I can see why this game did not sell too well at launch. This game felt like it was not finished. There were moments where the NPC would just stand around doing nothing while I was in front of them. Not only that, you had constant frame drops. Especially when you have multiple things going on on screen.

Now the things I did like about the game, I quite enjoyed the voice acting in the game. Futurama had the actual voice actors in this game which is great. I also enjoyed how each character you played had their own unique abilities such as Fry, he only uses guns. However if you play as Bender, he has a spin attack, ground pound, and a dash attack. Lastly, you have leela who just uses punches and kicks to defeat her enemies.

After finally completing the game, I won't spoil the ending for you, I would rate Futurama a 67/100. I would have rated it a bit higher if it wasn’t for the steep price. Sadly, this game is not worth buying at the $200-$300 price range. I understand why it’s so expensive, but if you can emulate the game I would highly recommend doing so. Futurama had funny moments, but the actual gameplay is rough. If you agree or disagree please leave a comment below. I hope you enjoy this video, im FGB and I'm out.
