Pokémon Soul Silver was released on September 12th, 2009, and is a remake of Pokémon Silver. At recording, a copy of Soul silver sells anywhere between $100 up to $160. As a long-time Pokémon fan, I wanted to play Soul silver and see if it still holds up today. I went to my local retro game store and purchased an authentic copy of Soul silver for $130. Was it worth it? Let’s find out together and get into it.
Pokémon Soul Silver was released as part of the Gen IV games and the first thing that struck me was the stunning graphical upgrade when compared to the Gameboy color. The world of Johto and Kanto are brought back to life with vibrant colors, detailed sprites, and dynamic environments. The ability to challenge the eight Johto Gym Leaders and then seamlessly transition to the Kanto region for another set of badges adds depth and longevity to the gameplay.
Pokémon Soul Silver is a great example of how to revisit a classic while staying true to its roots. The game captures the essence of what made the original Silver version special while introducing new elements that enhance the overall experience. It's a nostalgic trip down memory lane that manages to feel fresh and exciting, making it a must-play for Pokémon fans of all ages.
I also really enjoy having Pokémon follow you around the overworld. It’s a small touch that has a big impact. It allows you to bond with the Pokémon and adds a layer of immersion to the adventure.
Pokémon Soul silver also introduced the Pokéwalker. I unfortunately was unable to get my hands on one, maybe in a later video, I could try it out. For those who don't know, the Pokéwalker is essentially a pedometer which encourages players to walk around but also provides a unique way to interact with Pokémon outside the traditional gameplay.
Let's not forget the soundtrack. The soundtrack of Soul Silver is a masterpiece in its own right. It blends iconic tunes from the original Silver version with a modern take. Each area's music is carefully crafted to enhance the atmosphere, creating an emotional connection that elevates the overall gaming experience. The soundtrack is a testament to the quality of Pokémon music.
Pokémon Soul Silver plays great. I enjoy each of the starters, such as Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita. If you want a bit of a challenge, if you choose Chikorita keep in mind the 1st and 2nd Gyms are flying and bug type Pokémon. I ended up using Totodile as my starter. After defeating the elite 4 and the Pokémon champion, the final team I ended up with was Gyarados, Feraligatr, Lugia, Heracross, Pidgeot, and Ampharos.
Pokémon Soul Silver is a fantastic game and is a must play for any Pokémon fan. I would have to rate Soul Silver a 91/100. Soul Silver stands as a great example of how to evolve a beloved franchise while staying true to its roots. I hope you enjoyed this video. I want to give a shout-out to King- Guides and Gameplay for letting me use his game play. I try my best to use authentic hardware and I unfortunately don't have a DS capture card. So once again thanks to King- Guides and Gameplay. A link to his channel will be in the description below. Leave a comment below and let me know what game I should review next. I'm FGB and I'm out.
