Here's how to take advantage of thermals.

Insulation tiers:

Tier 1: 60
Tier 2: 120
Tier 3: 240

Maximum amount of time you can get using campfires+clothing:

two Tier 3's: 8 minutes
two Tier 2's: 4 minutes
two Tier 1's: 2 minutes

It's a math game. The insulation factor is the amount of seconds it can give you before starting freezing, varying with the amount of heat a campfire gives you.
So 1 Tier 3 and 1 Tier 2= 240+120=360/60 seconds=6 minutes, etc.

Maximum amount of time you can get using thermal stones before overheating:

two Tier 3's ≈ 19 minutes and 45 seconds
two Tier 2's ≈ 9 minutes 50 seconds
two Tier 1's ≈ 4 minutes 55 seconds

You calculate the insulation times, then multiply the result by 2.47.

So one tier 3 and one tier 2= 360/60 seconds=6*2.47=roughly 15 minutes
