While bringing far more imagination and variety to the template laid down by it's inspired source material, Dreamkiller fails to recreate Painkiller's tight and focused gameplay. Some would (validly) argue that aesthetics don't mean much in a game where you're spending most of your time circle-strafing and lowing shit up, but the level of imagination and care on display still managed to sell the game as an experience, even if it doesn't hold up too well beyond that.

Sadly, Mindware closed its doors in 2011, with only Dreamkiller, the Painkiller DLC 'Overdose' and a game I'm definitely going to hunt down and play, Cold War, being their only releases. I hope the folks involved went on to other teams and projects, because I can't really fault the skill on display.
