Be sure to like and subscribe Crash was originally designed by Charles Zembillas and Jason Rubin, and his original name was Willy the Wombat (alternatively spelt Willie). After rejected pushes from Universal Interactive Studios to name the character something more "family-friendly", such as "Wez", "Wuzzles" or "Wizzie the Wombat", Naughty Dog decided to name him "Crash" after his tendency to break crates, along with shuffling the species of a few characters to accommodate for Crash's recently-decided name. In the end, the character Pinstripe's species (along that of with his goons) was changed from bandicoot to potoroo, and Crash's from wombat to bandicoot, though no design changes were made to either.

Crash's design and personality went through a number of changes during development. In a YouTube video posted in July 2018, animator Butch Hartman revealed that he was one of numerous artists contacted in 1994 to create own designs for Crash's prototype, Willy, during his time at Hanna-Barbera. This version of Willy had a small, round body, though elements of inspiration of Crash's final self could already be seen. In addition, according to The Crash Bandicoot Files, Crash was originally planned to constantly impersonate other famous pop-cultural icons, similar to his portrayal in the first game's US commercials. One of Crash's concept designs by Charles Zembillas had him wear a black mask, making him resemble Zorro.

Crash was purposely designed with no neck to make his design simpler and take fewer polygons to render. He is the only Bandicoot in the series to be designed in such a way, with other bandicoot characters such as Coco, Crunch and Tawna having far more human-shaped anatomy. One of Crash's early designs also had a tail which was cut due to the limitations of the PlayStation. In real life, bandicoots have long hairless tails.

A very hard game for sure but still a ton of fun
