Era Game Reviews - Strife PC Game Review
In-depth PC game review of Strife: Quest for the Sigil for MS-DOS. Developed by Rogue Entertainment, published by Velocity, and released in 1996 as the last retail game to officially license the Doom engine, the same engine used to run Heretic and Hexen.
A comet strikes the planet and killed millions of people. Some of the survivors become mutated and form a group called "The Order". Those who are unaffected by the comet are oppressed and live in fear. What's left of the human race is rebelling against The Order, and you're there to help them do that.
Strife makes use of a hub system, allowing you to move back and forth between levels that make up the game world. Less than a month after the release of Strife, id Software released Quake, which was superior in virtually every comparible aspect. Whatever attention and craze Strife had quickly faded away into obscurity.
Strife can be played through modern source ports such as ZDoom, Vavoom, Zandronum, etc.
Era Game Reviews, is more than just reviews of older PC games from the 90's. The in-depth reviews not only discuss the basics like the graphics and gameplay, but also looked into the game's history, mods, culture and community.
