🏎️One of my favorite movies of all time is Rush. Incredible story about the racing rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt. The up-close shots and slow pans across the paddock and every little detail in the concrete made me not only enjoy the cars but get that sense of grim foreshadowing to Niki's tragic accident. Everything was so beautiful, so serene, especially in the rain, but on those days the track is the most dangerous.
🎮Growing up , my very first game ever was Gran Turismo 3. I had the first two but this was the first one i bought myself. I had a job basically cleaning up donuts and trash and bought my ps2 and that game and played nonstop for literally days. I remember having friends over as the years went on and we got cars in real life and started modding and going to meets and driving like most dumb 20 year old's did, poorly. Then after Gran Turismo 4....something shut off. We just stopped playing them. It wasn't even a question as to which racing game we would play, we played need for speed and even burnout if we were bored before a wrestling ppv. But 4 felt like its peak, i remember saying to my best friend at the time, this is literally the most perfect racing game, jokingly, i said it be like 15 years and a new console before we get anything new or exciting.
🎮I was kinda right, every racing game i've played up until this point has been good or even great, but it was missing something. After enjoying the Dirt series, playing the heck out of all the Horizons, Assetto Corsa, GRID, F1 game that Codemasters did a phenomenal job on. I even put decent time into Project Cars and Unbound. But all of them, were lacking something that I found in my first true automotive passion. Rally.
🎮Dirt Rally 2.0 had every bit of realism I as a hardcore racing sim player wanted. I wanted realistic controls, fuel management, weather that was not only dynamic, but affected racing conditions and even rules. Damage that took time to repair, that damage truly affecting your game plan. It felt so meticulous, so detailed, it was rewarding to just finish a race with destroying my car. Getting first in a long event, i'm talking a real world 20 minutes of race time for a lap or climb, felt so damn rewarding, it was like beating a game a few times a day just conquering each new course.
🎮And that was it, I realized I need realism, I want the old Forza back, that old Gran Turismo feeling of jazz music and credits and running to the upgrade section to see what engine swaps I could do to beat my friends. Sleeper cars were our Friday nights and we would literally race in Forza and do the auction house while in party chat. Amazing memories and amazing weekends with my little crew.
🎮That's what Forza Motorsport is, its a true homage to everything Auto & Racing. I made this video after only doing the intro and first race. But I was blown away. I had to make a video to show how great this game looks and how cinematic racing is. I was fully inspired by Rush while making this and hope that everyone playing feels a little nostalgia for the old days of Gran Turismo, Need for Speed and the incomparable Forza Motorsport.
Enjoy :)
