Frozen - Movie Review
3"Frozen" (2013) directed by Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee is a wholesome family friendly musical. It's probably one of my favorite children's animated movies but it's not quite amazing as something like "Coraline" (2009).
Two sisters named Anna & Elsa grew up in royalty and were very close to each other. Elsa shuns Anna after she accidentally endangered her with an ice spell but never tells Anna the reason why she keeps her distance. Once they are adults, Anna becomes desperate to find love and Elsa is about to be made Queen of Arendelle, but the two still have a gapped distant relationship. Elsa's powers become exposed to the townsfolk and she hides away in a frozen castle, but Anna comes after her not only because she is her sister but also because the world has become permanently stuck in a snow storm.
Frozen has great memorable songs and scenes. The comedy is surprisingly effective and practically every joke lands. The characters are easy to root for and are very likeable. The story is wholesome and I particularly appreciated the fact that this story was about adult-aged characters considering it's Disney and it's a children's animated musical.
The actual story itself is pretty weak to be honest, because Elsa's actions are not very justified and she is going about things entirely wrong every step of the way. Anna immediately falling in love and preparing to marry Hans was so unbelievably convenient, dumb, and felt unintentionally satirical. Any and all action can be removed from this film because it's useless and means nothing since nobody can be hurt or endangered. I actually wanted more songs in this and less regular dialogue.
Frozen is pretty good even for a male adult like myself. I don't normally review films like this but I felt this one was influential enough to deserve it.
