I, like so many others, was more of a Lucas Arts kind of point and click player as opposed to Sierra, but when giving them a chance I've realized how brilliant their work can be. Quest for Glory: So You Want to be a Hero was an RPG and adventure hybrid that was honestly one of the most satisfying cases of character progression I have ever played in a game. The first King's Quest had its share of flaws, but it surprisingly aged so well. Hell, there's still Space Quest, Police Quest, and the Leisure Suit Larry games which I gotta get around to eventually. Only one I wasn't too big on Phantasmagoria with its absolutely ridiculous plot.
Still, I've seen this one getting the most praise: The Gabriel Knight series. It seems to be one of the most big-budget of the series, with either Hollywood level actors being involved, or using on-set locations in foreign countries. The amount of praise the games got, especially the first two, are just ridiculous. They were known to be for a more mature audience, a direction rarely, if ever seen before in adventure games, and for the amount of research and detail put into the plot. I couldn't wait to play these. Do they deserve their praise? Find out here.
