Gamifying Their Love: Affinity Mechanics in JRPG's
20Whether you call it Affection, Affinity, Social Links, Bonding, or BFF Points, JRPG's have long been home to mechanics for gamifying both the romantic and interpersonal relationships of its characters. Some people (myself included) quite like these kinds of systems, but others have raised some valid points against them. Today I'm going to take a look at Affinity mechanics, briefly go over their history (as far as I can track it), and discuss some of the pros and cons of having them in a game.
