♫GENS D'ARMES (Ys VIII) SNES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of "Gens D'armes," a theme by Falcom's JDK band for the 2017 game Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch model US SNES console.
I recently played through the Playstation 4 version of Ys VIII, and I loved how much it was able to keep the Ys spirit while totally modernizing its game play. But like many of the games in the series, it wouldn't be anywhere near as awesome without Falcom's famous brand of metal music.
Of all the great tunes in the game, the Gendarme track stood out to me the most. It played leading up to one of the biggest plot reveals in the first half of the game, and even though it sounds like boss music, it's the regular background music for a mountain path. Talk about epic.
When I started on this, I knew fully well that I couldn't hope to perfectly replicate such a song on the humble SNES hardware, but despite some heavy simplifications that I had to make to certain parts, I think it came out well. It's recognizable, at the very least! ;)
It was fun to go so hard with the guitar solos and the heavy drums with this. It's just so upbeat!
Hope you all like it!
The video clips were recorded from the intro sequences from Ys I & II on the TurboGrafx-CD.
