A bizarre little game originally developed by University of Tokyo's Theoretical Science Group in 1979 for PC, Heiankyo Alien later made appearances in the arcades, on the Apple II, the Game Boy and the Super Famicom.

As a police officer in the Heian period of Japanese history, your job is deal with an invading alien force by digging holes and burying the suckers alive. It's a dead simple game, but it's easy to understand, reasonably challenging and really additive. The music is absolutely fantastic.

There's not much to say about Heiankyo Alien. Hell, its concepts can be explained in just a single sentence. But it embodies everything I love about video games. It's a strange, unique gem for the Game Boy, and if you love quick arcade style games, you should give it a look.
