"High Seas Havoc," also known as "Captain Lang" in Japan and "Captain Havoc" in Europe, is a side-scrolling platformer game developed by Data East for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. Released in 1993, it follows the adventures of Havoc, a pirate seal, and his sidekick Tide, a small octopus. The story revolves around Havoc's quest to rescue the kidnapped mermaid, Bridget, from the clutches of the evil pirate Bernado.

Players navigate through various levels set in maritime environments such as beaches, pirate ships, and underwater caverns. Along the way, they must overcome obstacles, defeat enemies, and collect power-ups to progress. The game features traditional platforming mechanics, including jumping, climbing, and attacking foes using Havoc's abilities. Havoc has no sword like the cover suggests, but power-ups like health-restoring food, speed-boosting boots, and life-granting gems are present.

The game has vibrant visuals, a catchy soundtrack, and tight controls, which contribute to an engaging gameplay experience. Levels has a ten-minute time limit per level and two stages per zone. Despite its relatively straightforward gameplay, the game's charm lies in its colorful characters, lively animations, and challenging level designs.

The game's difficulty increases sharply in its latter half with demanding platforming sections, to the point of being unfair with its obstacles and hidden enemies. Despite this, "High Seas Havoc" remains playable, thanks to plenty of extra lives and health items distributed over the levels. Boss battles escalate in difficulty but has clear patterns for success, which makes them enjoyable. In summary, "High Seas Havoc" has solid gameplay marred by a lack of refinement. Yet, its positives outweigh its flaws, making it a worthwhile platformer.
