How To Get Good - Set Your Narrative
3,664Every time you die in a game, every time you fail in some way... what are you telling yourself? Some people are really hard on themselves, to the point they destroy any hope they have of succeeding in the future. I'm not saying everyone has it in them to be champion of the world... I'm saying you should at least give yourself the best chance possible and not ruin your days over things that probably don't even matter.
Setting your narrative to be positive and encouraging is a good start. So when you die in a game, don't say "Why am I so bad? Why can I never do anything right? Damn I suck.", instead, try to appreciate that the other person is highly skilled... or maybe they pulled off a good shot. Maybe see that you have a lot to improve ... and maybe you have the skills but you're having an off day.
We can't control everything in life. We just do the best we can and see what happens. Stressing over things or hating on yourself when they go wrong doesn't really help... unless you've found a way to use that negative energy to be a positive. So relax, appreciate you're probably amazing by any other standard in the universe and go enjoy what you do. Don't be so hard on yourself.
You don't have to be the best to be good. You already are, you just have to start appreciating why.
