46In this episode, we unbox our 2021 December Video Games Monthly box where we nearly 2x our money, including four sealed games for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, a Sega Genesis Game, and the most valuable game we've ever gotten from them for them in an import N64 title!
If you've ever gone out game hunting, you're always looking for that one. Hidden gem. That game that is priced low but you know the real value of. Sure, finding games that are fun is extremely important, but finding something that's worth money at a considerable discount, that's exciting. And what, just what, if you could have this delivered right to your doorstep? That's what happened to us this month in our box from Video Games Monthly.

There's a lot to unbox here, both literally and figuratively. First and foremost, four sealed Xbox One and PS4 games? I never expected that! And the cartridge games, while Primal Rage is not the heaviest of hitters, the Japanese version of Majora's Mask covers almost the entire value of what I paid. I was very pleased with the overall condition of both Primal Rage and Majora's Mask, both played perfectly in my systems after cleaning them. Primal Rage did need a little bit extra TLC, but I never had to break out the Bright Boy, which is good.
I have to say, I was really surprised to see Majora's Mask was valued as high as it was. Many times, the Japanese versions of games aren't worth as much simply because they sold many more copies in that market than what we saw here in the States. $35+ for a loose copy really surprised me, but in a good way. I did pick up a complete inbox version of Ocarina of Time earlier 2021 from Japan Retro Direct for about $50 I want to say, so seeing a loose copy of Majora's mask priced like this was interesting for sure.
Playing Japanese import games on the N64 is super simple. All you need to do is open up the system and remove the cartridge tray and replace it with a region-free one. See, Nintendo region locked the N64 based on the shape of the back cartridge which keyed into a corresponding tray in the system. The Japanese and American systems had different offsets to them, however, you can get a 3D printed tray to replace the stock one, and then you can play both Japanese and American games on either system. System. Oh, and if you're looking for one of these, I happen to sell them on our 3D printed website!
I won't say that I think that this is an amazing box, as I have received boxes with games. I wanted to play more than these, however, this probably has the best return on investment in terms of game value versus what I paid. Most of that is due to one singular game, but to receive almost $90 in total value in games for what I paid, job well done boys, job well done.
