Watch out my digital friends! These dungeons are dangerous!
And speaking of rolling, you don’t have to do that to hit here!
There is No Battle Brothers style miss, block, miss here!
And certainly no XCOM style 99% chance to hit misses here!
In Nether Guild, the tactical is present absent the feeling of wasting your turn, as NetherGuild is a
Tactical RogueLite / RogueLite RPG free, of the ‘to hit’ RNG!
Combat wise: think Final Fantasy Tactics without magic, and mixed with a bit of Darkest Dungeon style exploration, but Isometric, with Procedural Generation, Perma Death, and Voxels!
Like in Final Fantasy Tactics and related games, you move each of your characters depending on their rolled initiative, positioning them to efficiently drop your foes and take as little damage as possible, but differing from the old FF classic gem, the exploration is integrated flawlessly into the combat.
After the battle, you keep exploring the dungeon, looking around for loot, monsters, and the elevator down to the next floor, kind of like in the first Darkest Dungeon, absent elevators and the stress though.
In NetherGuild, both Dungeon Exploration and Dungeon Combat are a focus of the game, allowing the party to avoid fights and dive for the elevator if they wish, as the goal is to the get to the bottom, not to kill everything on the way down, but you can try if you wish.
So, if Procedurally Generated Dungeons and PermaDeath, packaged in a Turn based, Party based, Tactical adventure interests you, NetherGuild might be the game for you.
