Is The Alone in the Dark Remake Any Good?
29Alone in the Dark remake vs original. Alone in the Dark remake developed by Pieces Interactive and published by THQ Nordic in 2024, played on PS5. Alone in the Dark, released in March 2024, is a remake of the original PC game from 1992. But it's so different that it takes on a completely new identity. Both are inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, but the remake focuses so much on voodoo that it feels like it takes just as much inspiration from Gabriel Knight Sins of the Father, a 1993 Sierra Adventure Game. It should be no surprise that this has a stronger emphasis on adventure game mechanics than Resident Evil. The new Alone the Dark retains the feel the original game, focusing on collecting documents that reveal more of the story, inventory, puzzle solving and light combat mechanics. It's a well-made game with its own thing going on. It doesn't try to be resident evil, and it deserves more attention as a survival horror game than it's gotten.
