I have a theory for the Sticky Carpet at rest stop. I have been able to reproduce this 2 times now.
Theory goes as follows and it starts in the Pink Desert. These are the steps I took to get the carpet to stick to me twice now. This is very difficult to acheive but I am sure some of you will nail it.

1. Have a companion in the Pink Dersert and go to and activate the shrine together. After scene with guardian let your companion ride the carpet to the ski slopes and you stay behind/disconnect from them.
2. This is the hard part. - 'Play' with your taxi carpet to lure it away from shrine a little by dive boosting around it and try and get it to chase you, but don't let it catch you/touch you. Once it is far enough away from the exit point (the place with all of the carpets) boost/dive boost through the carpets FAST and go to the ski slops by yourself..DO NOT LET THE TAXI CARPET TOUCH YOU AT ALL. If it does in anyway, even if it catches you over the wall then the sticky carpet bug won't work.
3. After you slide normally down to the rest stop and hopefully there is no new companion there, simply WAIT for a new companion to slide down the slope and join you. It is not long after you see the glow of a new companion that a carpet comes out of nowhere and attaches to you.
4. I believe It is your new companions taxi carpet that attaches to you as I think as 'residual' programming from your missed taxi carpet from the Pink Desert.
Things that make it fail
- Touching the taxi carpet in anyway in the Pink Desert with make this fail.
- Arriving at Rest Stop with a companion there already will make this fail.

Good Luck! :)
