0The Greed King, after settling down in the past, but before the creation of Tara, was a menace. He set up shop in a small piece of land and promised a goldened prize to any peasant that can go into the fabled Undermine, reach the bottom, and prove it.
In the mean time he hired some local nobels to take any gold the peasants find in the mines and give him half the earnings. It was meagure at first, but the Greed King is nothing if not patient, and so wait he did.
And as they all killed themselves the money came flowing in. Truly this was his greatest con yet. And the best part is after thousands make him millions, he could give whoever wins a paltry sum so they don't ask questions, or have that peasant killed, whichever is easier at the time.
It's not like that's going to be anytime soon, who cares?
