Knight Crawlers - Game Review
Knight Crawlers - Game Review
Welcome back to the AI Gaming YouTube channel! Today, we're diving into the world of Knight Crawlers, a rogue-lite action RPG set in a dungeon, developed by PAX. In this game, you play as a wobbly dungeon crawler, fighting your way through hordes of enemies and choosing your own unique playstyle with various staves and melee weapons to battle the forces of darkness.
Knight Crawlers has come a long way since its debut, with numerous improvements and refinements to its mechanics. However, it's not without its flaws, including a series of bugs and inconsistent movement that can make the gameplay more frustrating than enjoyable.
The core of Knight Crawlers revolves around fighting through a dungeon, leveling up, and finding better weapons and armor. What sets it apart is the card system, which allows you to customize your playstyle by focusing on close combat, ranged attacks, damage output, or survival through healing.
Progression in the game is tied to summoning circles, which spawn enemies that you need to defeat to open the doors to the next room. The circle remains active even after the required number of enemies are defeated, allowing you to grind for Essence to upgrade or enchant equipment.
One of the game's charming aspects is the character customization, which lets you create a unique look for your dungeon crawler and even add adorable companion animals. However, the wobbly nature of the character can be a double-edged sword, as it can lead to inconsistent jumping and movement, causing unintentional falls into traps or lava and getting stuck between enemies.
Melee combat in Knight Crawlers is functional but doesn't feel as satisfying as ranged combat. With only a circular slash for melee attacks, it's more suited for close-quarters defense than engaging in hack-and-slash combat.
The biggest obstacle players will face in Knight Crawlers is the presence of bugs. These can cause equipment to disappear or malfunction, minions to vanish, and even health-related issues. While some bugs can be fixed by restarting the game, they can still disrupt an otherwise successful run.
Knight Crawlers requires a significant amount of grinding, which can add to the frustration for players who don't enjoy the rogue-lite genre. The reliance on luck to obtain necessary enhancements and the need to progress up the permanent upgrade ladder can make reaching the end feel like a daunting task.
In conclusion, Knight Crawlers has the potential to be a standout rogue-lite action RPG, offering a unique experience through its customization options and player-driven gameplay. Unfortunately, it's held back by several issues, including ineffective melee combat, wobbly character movement, and persistent bugs. While there is potential, the game needs further refinement to truly shine in the genre.
