Knuckles' Chaotix: Part 18: Metal Sonic Final Bosses & Good Ending
14After completing all 5 Acts of all 5 Attractions/Zones, set up your team one more time and head back to the roulette that picked out your levels.
They have all been cleared, but what happens next?
Metal Sonic appears! He attaches himself to the entire contraption, turning it into a death machine to use against YOU!

This time for the roulette, you have to time your hits on its bumper so that the roulette stops at on the circled X. This will eliminate one of the other 4 numbered tiles.
If it lands on one of those instead, Metal Sonic attacks you with one of the mechanism's traps, such as trying to force you against spiked walls, or attacking you with buzzsaws from the ground.
And you have to beat this boss without any Rings.

After this, you move on to the next and FINAL boss of the game, and this final boss is the same no matter how many Chaos Rings you have.
Metal Sonic plummets right to Eggman's feet. The doctor decides to realize one more Giant Ring and... SOMEHOW have it merge with both him and Metal Sonic.
This turns Metal Sonic into the massive menacing crimson-colored Metal Sonic Kai!

With 10 Rings at your disposal now, this fight is split into three phases.
The first phase has you try to destroy the one of the robot monster's arm, but watch out for his sharp claws!
The second phase has Metal Sonic Kai in the background, trying to flatten you with his other remaining arm. Attack its hand after it slams down a few times to destroy that, too.
In the third and final phase, Metal Sonic will use the cannon from his chest to blast a massive laser. This can easily be dodged, and the cannon is its final weakpoint.
Beat this boss, and you beat the game, and if you got all 6 Chaos Rings, the game will let you know that, too!

The Good Ending isn't too fascinating, but it's still amusing, because...
Aside from reusing the 5 main characters' title screen animations, you also get a VERY sudden cameo of Sonic & Tails, themselves.
...This game was probably rushed, because those two were going to be playable in this game thanks to its prototype known as Sonic Crackers. There are still some hints of this within the game's code (or just look at Mighty's normal sprites), but ultimately this never came to be.

I admit, aside from the music and overall artstyle of this game, I didn't really enjoy it much compared to other Sonic games in the Genesis family of them (including Sonic CD), but it was still nice of me to give it some attention.
Still, this game's material still got used in future projects. For example, Vector, Espio, and Charmy essentially getting rebooted for Sonic Heroes.
