A followup from the previous video (https://youtu.be/EgbSUKcJZsE), abusing Knuckles' Chaotix ring cap bonus pts feature for fun and high score profit :P.
Apparently the prototype builds didn't enforce the ring cap until build 0208, and build 0210 enforced both the ring cap and bonus points. The ring cap appears to have been implemented simply to keep the ring counter down from hanging out too long in the Bonus Stages (gather infinite rings), and bonus points as an extra for additional rings. Keeps level scores down at the results screen from ring total for balancing out the high scores. Rings at the level results give 100 pts per ring (effectively 25500 pts max with the ring cap), while bonus rings from the cap give 200 pts each (more).
There is still yet a bug in the ring cap bonus points code with improper signed math to calculate the score. If you gain a large amount of bonus rings above the cap (e.g. from a Combi ring while having larger ring count), the score added will be about -10k pts. Giving crippling score debt.
