La-Mulana: Alternate Viy Quick Kill
8I recently discovered a glitch with the Viy fight that prevents the eye beam from destroying the platforms. It's caused by what I'm assuming is a sprite limit, which when capped, prevents the game from loading the animations for platform destruction (and therefore keeps the platforms from being destroyed at all).
With this discovery, I was able to utilize it (using caltrops) to come up with a backup hard mode Viy quick kill strategy. It takes a little bit of RNG, but laser into eye-stalk on the second cycle is the most common outcome.
Compared to the normal quick kill (which involves damage boosting directly into the eyeball on a second-cycle laser), this approach is probably only about 5 seconds slower, making this a good option if you're playing hard mode and coming into the fight without enough health for the normal quick kill.
