Leisure Suit Larry 1 SCI Remake 16 Color Version Playthrough
7Next up in our series of 16 Color Version playthroughs is the SCI Engine remake of the 1987 game Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Longue Lizards, which used the less capable AGI Engine. Leisure Suit Larry itself was a remake of 1981 text based adventure Softporn Adventure for the Apple II. The official title for the SCI Engine game is Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Longue Lizards (this includes both the 16 Color and 256 Color Versions). The game would be remade once more with Larry series creator Al Lowe's involvement for 2013's Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded.
Notes on the Playthrough :
The intentional death shown from the mugger in the alleyway at the beginning was suffered intentionally to show off the Easter Egg. The beginning of the video through the Easter Egg was taken from an earlier playthrough which we decided to reject because it was less efficient, so this sequence is edited in before we start the playthrough normally.
The game relies on gambling, and if you lose all your money via gambling you will get a game over screen once you exit the slots or blackjack screens. Fortunately the game does not penalize you for "save scumming" and we use it here to save time. The Blackjack table is the better choice for raising money quickly as while the odds are in the house's favor Blackjack does not completely rely on randomness.
For getting a perfect score, you'd think Ken Williams would say something more positive than "You did OK, I guess."
