Roland Crane witnesses a missile explosion on a city he was going to. Before he lost consciousness he is transported away to the world of Ni no Kuni at a younger age. There he helps Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum the rightful heir to the kingdom of Ding Dong Dell escape while his kingdom is under a coup. Now they must build a new kingdom so that everyone can live happily ever after.
