You must have all weapons upgraded to level 4 and have finished the prior Emil quests for this to become active. I would recommend projectile defense for your pod skills (all of them), particularly if playing on Very Hard, as all attacks are projectile based and there is a lot of them.

As for what weapons to use it's really up to preference, I did it with two different weapons to show it really doesn't matter. Crit+ weapons are generally the highest dps so if you're doing this fight below-level I would recommend a build based around crit.
