As soon as you reach the Marsh Hopper room, stay near the exit and use the rocket launcher. After killing enough Marsh Hoppers, the exit door will open. Do not stay and fight any remaining Marsh Hoppers still spawning otherwise the exit will close and it will not open again. You'll be stuck there and your journey ends there. Even though I found the minigun in a secret area and died later, I still got to keep it. I don't know why that is. I lost the tommygun when I died in Sand Canyon. I also lost the cannon when I was testing Metropolis and died. Whatever, I won't question it further.
