Let's Play Travis Strikes Again - Part 20 - Virtual Insanity (Finale)
In this part after deleting the onslaught of bugs (read as: people) at the CIA, we finally make it to the mother computer, the Death Drive AAA! Who else would be guarding it but the head honcho herself, White Sheepman! Or should I say...Dr. Juvenile!
We've fought our way through the best (and worst) that the DDMKII had to offer. She poured her soul into these games and lost everything for it. It's been quite the ride, but it's time for this game to reach its natural conclusion. Let's give the Doctor one hell of a send-off! IT'S FINAL GAME TIME!

At the exit again...man...getting to play a new entry in the No More Heroes series is an opportunity that comes very rarely. It's re-debut into the spotlight has been met with very polarizing reviews, which is pretty par for the course for SUDA51's various works. Not only is this the return of Travis but also his first directorial effort since the original game, something that shines through pretty much non-stop in the writing. Some of the absolute strongest stuff that Grasshopper games has to offer!
The different games that Travis and Badman go through mix it up just enough to never keep things feeling too stale...with some exceptions. A few levels drag on longer than they need too (Life is Destroy, and CIA being two big offenders). The various bosses and the soundtrack are lauded much like the previous games but the core hack and slash gameplay is where most people's issues come into play. I will admit that pulling back the camera from the action takes away some of the oomph that killing had, and the lack of blood definitely makes it less visceral. But...while it can be repetitive at times, but it's honestly not a far cry from the originals. They weren't the Platinum-style action masterpieces of their time like nostalgia goggles would lead you to believe, and this is coming from someone who holds the NMH1 as one of my favorite games...if not my absolute favorite!
The addition of skill chips adds a whole slew of tactics and play styles that simply weren't possible in the first two entries. With the addition of co-op as well, there's a lot of synergy between the various chips and it leaves plenty of room for experimentation. Skills are a feature that MUST return for Travis' next adventure.
Speaking of, No More Heroes 3 is something that is on everyone's minds, especially after the conclusion of this game. I hope that this spinoff does well enough to justify the cost of the big-budget threequel that everyone is hoping for, and that SUDA51 has the chance to give Travis the biggest fight of his life! But if that doesn't pan out...then I'm glad we were able to step back into his shoes one last time.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but in my eyes, Travis Strikes Again is a welcome return for our favorite otaku assassin. Here's to you, Mr. Touchdown.
I hope you enjoyed the LP ;D
