Lets Review Nine Witches: Family Disruption and why I didn't finish the game

Nine Witches: Family Disruption is a pixelated Adventure game by Blowfish Studios. You play as a professor slash medium and his sidekick who are on a mission to find out about a devious occult plan by some classic Indiana Jones Nazis.
The good things first: The game looks and plays great. As a pixelated adventure game, this is right in the veins of Monkey Island or Indiana Jones. The puzzles are slightly easier than I am used to with these kind of games but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There is even some fighting involved which plays pretty smoothly and even has two difficulty levels. You can switch between characters and each has different skills which makes for very fun gameplay. So, if you like retro pixel games and love fighting Nazis just like Hellboy or Indiana Jones, this might be the game for you.
It wasn't for me.
As much as I appreciate the details and finesse of the game, the writing was really really really not my cup of tea. It starts with the jokes that mostly are the bottom of the barrel of any Adam Sandler script. Pee and fart jokes and female characters named "van Udder", you know, because of breasts, didn't really help me get into and/or feel comfortable in the world of Nine Witches. A lot of the humor is outright cruel and not in the cheeky Monkey Island sense, where Guybrush continously antagonizes the player. Look, I appreciate being cruel to Nazis in any context but this game is also cruel to the people oppressed and killed by the nazis and that's where it got complicated for me.
Spoiler Alert: the moment I completely lost all enjoyment of the game came when a priest told us about the fate of his church and how the nazis basically killed the entire congregation except him and one nun. Subsequently, he killed himself and the nun went quote/unquote "batshit crazy". That is kind of played for laughs and only moments later, the nun gets killed by the Nazis in front of our eyes. WTF did I just play? How did a game that does this (fart joke) and this (another silly joke) go to making fun of traumatized victims of the Nazis and then go to kill them off? Monkey Island - would never.
Look, I might be sensitive here, but a game that talks about the atrocities that Nazis committed followed by fart jokes is something that is possible but needs incredible writing to not veer into being tasteless. And, well, the writing for Nine Witches might be ok but it's not incredible. This is a silly game but it has things in it that break the tonality completely and not in an interesting but rather in a sitting there slack jawed in silent shock kinda way.
And you know what, it's fine. It's fine if other people enjoy this game and it's fine if I don't and decide to not finish it. Not everything is for everyone and everyone has their own limits and sense of humor. Other players might like the "dark and dry" humor of this game. I personally didn't. I like silly bugs in whirlpools, big piggies eating soup and odd Japanese rules of consideration and I guess I stick with that.
